14 Day of Happiness

--

“Woolhara” by Albert Irvin

Jane realized that she could control the weather on a blue February morning. She smiled as a miniature flurry of snow flew from her dancing fingers, as the yolk sizzled on the pan when she stared at it with squint eyes, as she watched a bare tree blossom with unthinkable green when she hugged it trunk. She made it rain torrentially for the next 14 days, watched how the forecast reporters’ white faces croaked like the frogs that had begun inhabiting the streets. She watched with a smile as children with no homework and yellow raincoats 1) splashed in puddles, 2) ran down the street chasing their paper boats being swept away by the rivers of water, and 3) made maps to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
